Luxury Tented Camp

Thabamati Luxury Tented Camp is a venture by the dedicated team of conservation-minded people running Shindzela Tented Camp. Both camps are owned by the same family and are situated in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve that forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The idea behind two camps with completely different styles arose during years of travelling to various destinations in Africa – separate products, both offering a unique and authentic taste of what it means to stay in a safari tent amid the sights and sounds of the African bush.

Thabamati, meaning “mountain and water”, became a reality in 2019. The camp consists of 4 luxurious and spacious en-suite safari-style tents, each overlooking a beautiful dam with amazing views of the Drakensberg Mountains beyond. The elegant intimate tented camp accommodates only 8 guests, which is an added attraction.

  • Luxury wildlife safaris
  • Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles/safari walks.
  • Professional, knowledgeable and fully qualified guides.

The highlight is probably observing the wildlife, including the Big Five and numerous bird species, in their natural surroundings during our game drives and optional daily short bush-walks.

The “green” camp is eco-friendly, utilising only solar power and gas. This means that you can enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer, as she intended it.

Upon your arrival, you will be met by our dynamic and experienced team who will see to it that all your needs are met. So relax and enjoy your safari vacation, knowing that you are in good hands.

Shindzela is situated on a private concession area (approx. 6500ha) within the Timbavati Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. This means there are no fences between the areas traversed by our guides and the Kruger National Park! This means animals have got free movement within this magnificent Greater Kruger. We are lucky enough to drive off-road into the bush following (with a respectful distance) any of the Big five animals that we may encounter. The Timbavati Reserve offers an array of different types of vegetations, bird and animal life!

The Timbavati also forms part of the Associated Private Nature Reserves (APNR) and in 1993, fences between Associated Private Nature Reserves and the Kruger National Park were removed to encourage wildlife migration, and the Greater Kruger National Park was born. The Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It stretches across the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa borders Zimbabwe in the north and Mozambique in the east.
