Shindzela has eight (8) canvas safari-style tents, built on wooden platforms and are under thatch (grass roofs), with en-suite bathrooms (basin, shower and loo). We can make the tent a double- or a twin (2 single beds) tent, just let us know which you would prefer.
Each tent is furnished with the following:
- Wooden entrance door to bedroom and bathroom
- Adjustable canvas flaps for windows and mesh to keep insects out.
- Solar main lights
- Bedside tables, luggage racks and open-style hanging rail with hangers
- Mosquito nets and amenities (body lotions, body wash & shampoo)
- Bedding and towels
- 2 x single beds or 1 x queen-size bed
- Peaceful Sleep spray to keep the mosquitoes out
- En-suite bathrooms with shower, flush toilet and hand basin (hot and cold running water) – gas-powered
- Corner-standing fan.
The camp can only accommodate a maximum of 16 guests in total. There is a small waterhole across the riverbed where animals come for a drink of fresh water.
Important: As we are unfenced, please do not wonder into the bush on your own during the day – stick to the pathways. At night time, your guide will take you to and from your tent (please do not try to be brave and walk alone).
Also read the Camp Safety Rules.
The general bush-camp area includes the covered, thatched-roof dining and lounge area, the camp kitchen, a central African fireplace (boma), and a small swimming pool.
Shindzela uses solar-powered lights, gas geysers and lanterns. There are no power outlets in the tents. Please make use of our charging station in the main area. Charge all your items during the day and at dinner time, as the hyenas/honey badgers also seem to “enjoy” electronic gadgets!
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the camp area.
Shindzela Tented Camp offers three meals a day: a hearty made-to-order breakfast, a late lunch and dinner under the African stars (weather permitting). We offer tasty South African dishes such as roasts, braais (Barbeques) freshly-baked breads, vegetables, fruit and salads.
Guests with special dietary requirements must please give us a heads-up (during your booking process), so that we can accommodate your meal preferences.
Breakfast and lunch are served in the lounge/dining room area. Supper is usually served in the boma area, around the camp fire.
We operate a lovely bar. Please ask your guide or hostess to assist you with a drink/refreshment.
In the main area, there are wildlife books and other reading material to enjoy during the day if you are not watching the local birdlife or animals drinking at the waterhole across the riverbed.
All drinks, except purified water from a dispenser in the lounge area, are for guests’ own account. We add this to your tent number, and you can settle this upon departure in cash or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard).
Our game-viewing vehicles are open 4×4 Land Cruisers (bring lots of sun screen and hats to protect you from the African sun), which seat 10 guests each. Your game drives are conducted by qualified field guides.
